Police: Woman may have died from cold at NY center

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a homeless woman who may have died of exposure to the cold last week outside a city-owned building in Saratoga Springs.

Police say Monday that they're awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of 54-year-old Nancy Pitts' death. Her body was found Thursday morning on a porch at the Saratoga Senior Center.

The building is about a block away from Saratoga's busy main thoroughfare.

Lt. Robert Jillson tells local media that Pitts may have died from natural causes or from temperatures that dipped to 12 degrees that night. He says staffers at the center were familiar with her and she was known to spend nights at various locations downtown. Foul play isn't suspected.
