McCain Chooses Governor Sarah Palin As Running Mate

John McCain and Sarah Palin

Cindy McNicholl

DAYTON, O.H. (AP) - John McCain has tapped little-known Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his vice-presidential running mate.

John McCain has introduced Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a conservative who shares his maverick streak, as his vice presidential running mate in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.

At a raucous rally Friday in the swing state of Ohio, McCain said he made his pick after looking for a political partner "who can best help me shake up Washington and make it start working again for the people who are counting on us."  McCain said that Palin was "Exactly who I need. She's exactly who this country needs to help us fight the same old Washington politics of me first and country second."
.

The 44-year-old Palin, a mother of five, is a self-styled hockey mom and political reformer who has been governor of her state less than two years.

Palin's selection is a surprise, as McCain passed over many other better-known prospects, some of whom had been the subject of intense speculation for weeks or months.

At 44, Palin is a generation younger that Joe Biden, who is Barack Obama's running mate. She is three years Obama's junior, as well.

McCain has made much in recent weeks of Obama's relative lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters.

If conservatives are to have any hope in the coming weeks, we should wake up to the fact that we face in Barack Obama a formidable man. He won't be beaten until we who are trying to beat him understand why and how he has come so far. Let's not dismiss him so quickly and so easily.

Yes, Colonel Mustard, Palin does have executive experience. She has been the governor for a short time of a state of 600,000 people. And her own interviews seem to indicate she knows very little about what is occurring with the wars the US is engaged in, other than what she sees on TV. So, can you really say that she is qualified to be the leader of the free world? Doesn't this reveal a recklessness on the part of McCain about actually governing this country? I think the GOP deserves better.

McCain/Palin have far greater credentials than Biden/Obama. These Dems are lambasting Palin for "inexperience" and for being a "heartbeat away" from the Presidency while at war. Well, Obama has even LESS experience and would be the President! (God please help us all) "Community Service" (which no one can find any record of accomplishment of) does not count or else why don't we elect a volunteer worker from the valley to be President, it's the same darn thing--NO EXPERIENCE. Palin has Exec exp

Lets face it people...McCain picked Palin because she is a woman...and the majority of voters are women...and he needed a draw,a playing card to trumph obama...and Palin is his "ace in the hole". McCain hopes to draw the female vote...he doesn't care which woman he got, competent or not.As my grammy used to say, time to elect the next crook to office...because bottom line is that they promise us the american dream, and then tax us into nightmares!

How can you have no fear that Palin can defend this country? According to her own words, she seems to have no opinion of her own, other than what she heard in the news, about Iraq. Maybe she really isn't the best choice for the job. I, for one, wish that McCain had picked someone he knew a little better and someone that has actually been thinking about our national interests for longer than the last few days. She appears not to be that person. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe she will do a heckuva job.

While Obama might do a hundred things as President that I believe are bad for the country, I am confident that he would surround himself with experienced, informed, competent advisors and that he would make no world-destroying blunders. I cant say the same about Palin and, in view of what this choice reveals about McCain’s character and judgment, I cannot say the same of him either.

To seriously, please explain to everyone the experience obama has to lead this country? Oh thats right 140 days in the senate. Remember he's the one who wants to talk to the terrorists. Sarah Palin has had executive experience and a love of her country that I fail to see in obamabiden.I've no fear that mcCain/Palin will defend this country and if we can get rid of this democratic controlled congress which has been a total failure we will get back on the right track.

I think McCain just gave the election to the Dems without a fight. This lady could be just a heart beat away from becoming the US Pres. with no foreign policy experience and 2 wars going on. Does McCain really want the office ? Is his thinking stable enough to hold the office ?

John McCain is still the most experience Presidential nominee and Gov. (executive experience which Obama lacks) Palin is a strong choice in her own right. People tend to react on the negative side when they are fearful and you should be if you are placing your trust in the other ticket.

Well, Palin actually has more experience than Obama--and she is the only one of the four that has Executive experience (Senate experience is far different than Executive experience). Palin has a solid record of change and achievement while in all of her offical capacities. Look up Obama's accomplishments: None. Not 1 piece of legislation and he consistently voted "Present" while in the Senate--not taking any sides. How is this exp and achievement? Palin gets the job done & can prove it.

With obama's huge amount of experience 140 days in the senate, that will not be an issue for Palin. She actually has more experience than obama. McCain has plenty of experience so he could pick an interesting and surprising choice. obama needed someone like biden as he has so little experience. At least Palin will be number 2,obama's lack of experience should scare us all.

Colonel Mustard: I think Barack Obama is commenting on her readiness to be president after serving as mayor of a small town (9,000), and not commenting on the experience of living in a small town itself. I live in a town about that size, and I think he has an extremely valid concern.

i would exspect this reaction from this democratic machine that nbc is... atleast with her inexperience she's not running for presedent like obama. he hasn't got much more experience and he's running for presedent. so before all you liderals start running your mouths look at your own party before you start passing judgement..

To everyone who thinks she has little experience, please remember she has much more experience than nobama. He's only spent 140 days in the senate and he won't be a heartbeat away he'll be the leader. How scary is that? She also has much more executive experience than all of them. She took on a corrupt republican controlled state and totally cleaned it up. So please get the facts on someone BEFORE you write stupid comments.

Fantastic Pick! Obama's camp has already made a MAJOR gaffe in denegrating that Palin is from a small town "with only 9000 residents!" In that remark Obama has put down both women and people from smalltown America! Which smacks of elitism, which is of course no surprise. Did anyone else notice how he left out of his speech that he graduated from Harvard? That would have clashed with his "I'm just like you" routine--the real Obama comes through when he is unscripted.

I'm voting for her because of those frames!!!!!! Her left eye looks a little red, I suggest a drop or two of a good saline solution twice a day as needed for redness. Gotta keep those eyes lubricated. However it just may be the red eye flight from Alaska that caused the redness.
