Medical Preparations For Cooperstown For Hall Of Fame Weekend

By Andrew Donovan

Cooperstown is a village of about 3000 people. This Hall of Fame Weekend that number will soar to 50,000 people. The question is how will Cooperstown Emergency Medical Service, which might average two E.M.S. calls a day, handle the influx? For one, they wisely ask for help.

Bassett Healthcare's Emergency Department has been preparing for Hall of Fame Weekend for four months now. Usually, the weekend brings slip and fall injuries like broken wrists, but that is not what doctors are worried about. More serious injuries or medical situations are what they say they are concerned with.

The medical teams prefer you enjoy the weekend without a trip thru their doors altogether. Doctor Matt Jones' advice on how to do that: “If it's sunny out, bring sunscreen and some shade; maybe an umbrella or visor; drink plenty of water while you're walking up and down Main Street, and most of all, know and respect your physical limitations.”
