Cigarette marketing awareness promoted at New Hartford event

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A message of non-smoking was at the center of a Reality Check CNY gathering at the New Hartford Shopping Center Wednesday night.

A recent survey revealed that the Utica-Rome area ranks number four in cities where people have the most heart attacks.

Officials at the event said this statistic drives home the importance of educating the area's youth about the dangers of smoking and the dangers of cigarette marketing.

"Well, if we can prevent youth from smoking, then we're going to prevent early death and illnesses," said Heather Bernet, tobacco prevention manager.
