DWI charges after early morning accident near St. Luke's

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y (WKTV) - A Sauquoit man is charged with DWI after a serious accident that happened right near the entrance to St. Luke's on Champlin Ave.

New Hartford Police say at 2:17 a.m. James Lee II, 33, of Sauquoit was operating his vehicle south on Champlin Ave. and as he entered a curve in the roadway, his vehicle drifted out of it’s lane of travel, striking the curbing on the east side of the roadway.

This caused Lee to lose control of the vehicle.

A witness told Police the vehicle overturned several times before striking a utility pole and a tree.

Lee had to be extricated by first responders, and was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with head and facial injuries, as well as injuries to his back and shoulder.

Subsequent to the investigation, Lee was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Hartford Court at a later date.

The incident is still under investigation, and Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to cakk 315-724-7111.
