Update:House fire sends one person to the hospital
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - One woman was injured in a house fire in East Utica, Friday evening.
According to officials, a fire broke out at a residence on East Park Rd., at approximately 6:30 p.m., and engulfed the structure in flames.
The two story building sustained heavy damage as a result of the blaze, and it was said that two people currently live in the home.
Officials confirmed that one of the residents of the home, an unidentified woman, sustained burn injuries in the fire and has since been transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment.
The extent of the victim's injuries are not currently known, and an investigation has begun to determine the cause of the fire.
Officials have already begun to interview the burn victim at the hospital in order to aid in their investigation of the cause.
Prior to the investigation, fire fighters on the scene faced many challenged in order to put the heavy blaze out.
"There is a serious water pressure problem up here," said Utica Fire Chief, Russell Brooks. "We actually had Frankfort standing up here with their tankers so that was a great back up. We were very appreciative of them responding immediately."
The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as they are released.
