Forum in Sherrill on State and Nation Agreement

SHERRILL, N.Y. (WKTV)- A forum took place at Wednesday night in Sherrill to address the recent agreement between the state and the Oneida Indian Nation.

More than 100 people showed up at the meeting. Last week the nation entered into an agreement with the state that would resolve the long-standing land claim and create state-operated casinos upstate at the same time.

"The more you read about the agreement, there's more reasons not to like the agreement," said Mike Hennessy, City Commissioner in Sherrill.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says that the deal could be used to spur growth in the communities.

"It's about moving forward and I think that's what everybody has to focus on," he said.
