NYC man arrested in fireworks buy-and-bust

NEW YORK (AP) - NYPD vice officers have arrested a Queens man who they say had thousands of dollars worth of illegal fireworks in his house and in the trunk of his car.

Police say an undercover officer bought $500 worth of fireworks from 26-year-old George Liakas Tuesday night. They say Liakas told the officers that he had "a lot more fireworks" at his house.

Police obtained a search warrant Wednesday went to Liakas' house. They say they seized items including 50 boxes of fireworks and two boxes of firework-making materials from Liakas' home and car.

The estimated value of the fireworks was several thousand dollars.

No information on an attorney for Liakas was available.

The NYPD says the operation was its 48th fireworks seizure in advance of the Fourth of July.
