Standoff on Oneida Street ends peacefully

UTICA. N.Y. (WKTV)- A standoff at 1523 Oneida St. ended peacefully Friday morning, Utica Police said.

It began around 10 p.m. Thursday after a neighbor called police and said a man was yelling about a gun. Utica officers and New York State Police were on the scene until about 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Several people living near the home were evacuated. The man surrendered to police peacefully and was not armed.

The man was taken into custody under a mental health law and is being evaluated at a local hospital.

The standoff was unrelated to a fatal shooting that happened just a few hours earlier a few yards away.
