Standoff comes to an end in Village of Ilion

ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police have arrested one man following a stand-off in Ilion Wednesday afternoon.

William A. Buchanan, 36, who was sought by police for an assault arrest warrant, was holed-up inside his home and refused to come out.

Police said he made several references to Kurt Myers, the man responsible for the Herkimer County shooting spree in March.

Also, police said his intentions were to copy Myers if approached by law enforcement.

The incident began at around 4:30 p.m. at the corner of Grant and West Clark Street. Buchanan eventually agreed to surrender himself at around 6:53 p.m.

He was arrested and arraigned on an assault charge and taken to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
