Text messaging car accident in Utica injures two, including a child

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV)--Utica police responded to an accident on Lincoln Avenue where two people were injured including a 6-year-old boy.

Officials say Alesha Gonyea, was traveling south on Lincoln Avenue when she attempted to make a U-turn as she was reading a text message.

Another person in a nearby parked car tried to exit when she was struck by the car. The woman sustained injuries to her knees and ankles.

The victim's 6-year-old son was standing behind the car at the time and was also hit during the crash. The child sustained injuries to his face and legs.

Both victims were treated at Faxton St. Luke's Hospital.

Gonyea has been issued a court summons for texting while driving, unsafe turn and failure to maintain traffic lane.
