Utica police make arrests in crime-ridden Oneida Square area

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - In an effort to clean up one crime-prone area of town, Utica police have made several arrests in the Oneida Square area.

The Department's Metro Unit arrested Khaliq Hasan Hussein, 23, of Utica. He faces felony charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

Allita Pearson, 36, of Utica, is charged with petit larceny. He is suspected of stealing a person's cell phone on the 1300 block of Oneida Street.

Roberto Rodriguez, 37, of Utica, also faces felony charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

John Berube, 49, of Remsen, is charged with two counts of trespassing. It is alleged Berube was squatting inside a vacant apartment at 1000 Park Avenue. Drug paraphernalia was found inside the vacant apartment, including crack pipes and hypodermic needles.

According to police, numerous persons who have been loitering in the Oneida Square area have been issued tickets for other issues as well, such as littering and open container violations. Also several persons with active warrants of arrest against them have been taken into custody.
