Vernon Downs officials reacts to Oneida Nation deal

VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV)- Officials at Vernon Downs expressed some mixed feelings about the recent landmark agreement between the state and the Oneida Indian Nation Thursday.

Jeff Gural, principal owner of Vernon Downs spoke favorably about the deal.

"I commend Governor Cuomo and Ray Halbritter for making the deal," he said. "Turning Stone had a huge advantage not paying taxes. it's good for the community and good for the counties."

However the minority owner Gary Greenberg stated in an email that the agreement will be "The death knell of Vernon Downs. There will never be full table games at Vernon Downs thus depriving the horsemen. employees, customers and shareholders a chance to
compete on a fair level with turning stone or any other full table game casino in the state."
