Technicians fixing glitches on NY State of Health site, local offices help with sign up

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Computer glitches hit New York's new website for state residents to shop for health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act as it launched Tuesday, October 1.

People visiting the NY State of Health website after its launch were greeted with error messages when clicking on links to register as individuals or families. The links for employers, employees and brokers also experienced periodic problems.

A spokesman for the Department of Health blames the problems on the 2 million visits to the website in the first 90 minutes after its launch.
New York expects to enroll 1.1 million uninsured over the next three years.

The coverage goes into effect in January of 2014.

Enrollment is open until December 15th.

There are local resources to help cope with the confusion of signing up. They're called health insurance "navigators."

Call Aids Community Resources at (315) 475-2430, or the Mohawk Valley Perinatal Network at (315) 732-4657 to make an appointment for help applying for insurance.
