High school seniors receive special recognition from Boilermaker

UTICA - Four high school seniors received special recognition from the Boilermaker Road Race on Friday.

Richard Hunt, John Szczesniak, Christine Mulvihill and Jeff Blazek each won scholarship awards from the race. Choosing the winners was not easy. Organizers had to go through a lot of applications sent in by high school coaches.

The race director says that all four have achieved great things and they're all committed to running.

"This is one of the best things we enjoy doing, but is one of the hardest, because there are so many great applicants that come to us and we can only choose four," said Jim Stasaitis, the race director for the Boilermaker.

Each of the winner's received a plaque, a $1,000 check, along with a free entry for this year's Boilermaker 15k run.
