Some customers unhappy as Partners Trust makes transition to M&T Bank

Dave Dellecese

A new kid is on the block in the local banking world.

M&T Bank opened it's doors this weekend after taking over Partners Trust. But some customers say the transition is not running as smoothly as they hoped.

Long lines and slow transactions - all complaints that some former Partners Trust customers and now M&T customers have called the newsroom to complain about in the past few days.

So is it a matter of a troubled transition or just par for the course with any typical switchover?

Well that remains to be seen.

Long lines were evident at many branches today - but taking into consideration that this was the first week day of business since the changeover this weekend, many customers were there to iron out any kinks.

But some say they are frustrated with what they say are some big changes from their former bank.

"I think there is a lot of confusion," said Gary Harvey, a customer. "Disgruntled customers because it is tough to deal with change. So a lot of people are apprehensive about the switch over."

M&T purchased Partners Trust earlier this year. 219 jobs in the Utica area will be lost due to the buy out.
