Dollar General stores across the country have pulled one brand of Valentines off the shelves. But for some, the "stop sale" may have come too late.

A local teacher's assistant came to a Dollar General in Rome to buy valentines for her students. She ran out, so she asked her dad to come back on Thursday and pick up some more. But when he got to the cash register, they wouldn't let him check out.

That's because Dollar General placed an "immediate nation-wide stop sale" on the valentines he was trying to buy, all thanks to a little piece of metal that someone found yesterday in one of the card's lollipops.

The recall covers two different types of valentines - Pokemon Valentine Cards & Pops, and Dog Artist Collection valentines - both supplied by the same company, Sherwood Brands.

And even though Dollar General reacted quickly to the situation. Many of these valentines have already made it into little kids' hands.

"He says, 'I sold all kinds of them yesterday,' so how many he sold out of that one store, you don't know," said Elwood Miller, the man who tried to buy the recalled valentines. "And our daughter said another teacher had bought some for her students."

Dollar General issued this warning statement today, saying:

"Dollar General is very concerned about this discovery... and in light of today's valentine's day holiday, we would like to encourage all customers who may have purchased the Pokemon valentine cards and Pops to refrain from consuming it until we know more..."

"We will review with the supplier the manufacturing safety protocols that are in place and whether additional measures are needed."

We did go inside this Dollar General and all of the recalled valentines have been pulled off the shelves. But our phone calls to people at Sherwood Brands haven't been returned.
