A.C. Moore is second retailer to pull out of Riverside Center this year

By GARY LIBERATORE

UTICA - A.C. Moore will soon be closing its doors in North Utica, and it's the second retailer to pull out of the Riverside Center this year.

"Well, there's certain things that I buy for the crafts that I make, so I'm gonna miss them," said Kathy Jones, a Newport resident.

We're told a Liquidation Sale will begin here next week. It comes as the liquidation sale at Linens and Things is just about over and recent word is that Steve & Barry's is filing bankruptcy, but remains open.

Despite the big box and smaller stores that remain, some are worried about the future of this shopping center.

"I don't know what it is going to be, but if A..C. Moore goes, they are going to lose a lot of business," said Barbara Williams, an Oriskany resident.

No one from Pyramid, the developer who owns the property, returned our calls, but a spokesperson for the City of Utica says the mayor will be meeting with Pyramid executives next week to talk about the future and hopefully filling these soon to be vacant buildings quickly with new and different stores.

Now many people shopping there say they hope the city is right, that new stores will be moving in, but some say the best idea of all might be to go back 30 years and somehow once again make this, an indoor mall.

"It used to be real nice before," said Richard Wasyleski, a Frankfort resident. "We used to walk through the whole place, you know, now everything is broken up. It's a pain to go in and out all the time. So, I just assume to have it like it was before."
