Nutritional supplement uses fake "WKTV" news site to push its product

By By DAVE DELLECESE

(WKTV) - We all know WKTV, right? And health specialist Cathy Diaz and her reports on using pharmaceuticals? No? Well, neither do we.

A company has setup its own, website, posing as a news outlet. The website, www.news13direct.com calls itself "WKTV" and has its entire "news" page devoted to a supposed "health report" about a product known as Resveratrol.

It's all a scam from a company trying to sell resveratrol, a product that the website claims can "protect the heart and extend life by preventing a number of age-related illnesses."

The company, which has a mailing address of Hollywood, Florida, offers a "risk-free trial" if you provide your credit card information...which it then says it will bill well over $87.13, plus shipping at the end of 15 days, and will continue to do so every 30 days after that.

NEWSChannel 2 has nothing to do with this company, the drug, or the web site and are passing this warning along to you, our viewers. This website illegally uses our federally registered, copyrighted call letters and has nothing to do with this station.

"Call letters" are used by television stations to identify themselves to the TV audience. The call letters usually consist of various combinations of four letters, sometimes followed by the suffix--TV.

We have contacted the Fair Trade Commission and filed a complaint and and have contacted the Attorney General's Office. The State AG's Office said this case is in the hands of the station's legal counsel.
