F.X. Matt Brewery has big plans for American Craft Beer Week

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It is American Craft Beer Week, and the F.X. Matt Brewing Company in Utica is celebrating with a big week of plans.

Capping things off on Friday is a large party at the brewery called "Saranac Session," where fine foods will be paired with one of the Saranac summer brews.

Celebrations are being held in Central New York and across all 50 states as communities come together to show appreciation on the local level for the more than 1,900 independent craft brewers.

Aside from the big Saranac Session on Friday, there will be free samplings of the six different "Beers of Summer" at venues all around the city all week, and you may be surprised at some of the selections.

Rich Michaels, the Product Development Manager helps come up with the new recipes.

"Unique this year is the session IPA, which is a bit lighter, which is a full flavored beer, but lower alcohol. It's 4.7 percent," Michaels said. "The Shandy is a new recipe, which is the lemonade and lager, and the blueberry wheat. It's kind of unique. We're one of the 15 breweries that use real blueberry juice on our beer. It's kind of a challenge to find that much blueberry juice, but it really does make a better beer."

You can find the Beers of Summer in stores throughout the area or at the Brewery store itself and to find a listing of the locations where you can get free samples all week long, as well as information on tickets to Friday's party by visiting the brewery's website.

The tickets for the Friday event costs $40, which includes all of the food and beer you like.
