CONSUMER (WKTV) - Online shopping days free of sales tax could be numbered as lawmakers debate a bill known as the Marketplace Fairness Act. Some see it as an infringement on states’ rights and a federal encroachment on the almost-sacred ground of Internet commerce. The legislation would help states force online retailers to collect sales tax. Monday, the Senate voted 74-20 to take the legislation up for debate and amendment. States like New Hampshire, Montana and Oregon — which have no sales taxes are standing together against nearly every other state in the nation.
