OPPENHEIM, N.Y. (WKTV) - While responding to a residence in the Town of Oppenheim for a domestic incident, State Police discovered two dead dogs from malnourishment along with a third living dog.

According to New York State Police, they responded to Stowell Road in Oppenheim on Sunday, January 6 for the domestic incident and arrested Katrina Feasel, 31, for second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

During the course of the investigation, Troopers say they learned that Feasel and her boyfriend, Matthew VanAllen, 31, kept three dogs housed in kennels in the backyard of the residence. Upon checking the kennel area, Troopers say they discovered that two of the three dogs were dead and appeared very malnourished prior to their death.

Authorities said the third dog was alive and was secured by the Town of Oppenheim Dog Warden and transported to a veterinary clinic for treatment. A necropsy was performed on the two dead dogs with indications that one of the dogs died as a result of an intestinal parasite known as Whipworm and a contributing factor of death for both dogs was weather-related due to exposure from having been left outside in inadequate shelter during the recent extreme cold weather.

Subsequently, both Matthew VanAllen and Katrina Feasel were charged with cruelty to animals.

Feasel was arraigned in the Town of Oppenheim Court and VanAllen was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Oppenheim Court.

Authorities said there were no mugshots available of the two charged.
