Arrest made in Mother's Day larcenies

WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Whitesboro teenager is under arrest, accused of stealing property from more than a dozen vehicles on Mother's Day.

A joint investigation between the Village of Whitesboro Police Department and the Town of Whitestown Police Department resulted in the arrest of 17-year -old Joseph E. Hess.

Whitesboro Police say during the early morning hours on Sunday, at least 15 unlocked vehicles were entered and several items were stolen. Hess is accused of taking GPS units, cell phones, MP3 players, iPod's, cigarettes and cash. Police were able to recover all of the stolen property except the cash. The items will be returned to the owners.

Hess faces numerous counts of petit larceny in both the Village of Whitesboro and the Town of Whitestown. He will answer to those misdemeanor charges on May 24th and June 7th.

Officials want to remind residents to lock up their vehicles to prevent a crime of opportunity.
