FONDA, N.Y. (AP) - A trial is under way for an upstate New York man charged with stabbing two people to death last year in a Mohawk Valley apartment. Opening statements were made yesterday in Montgomery County Court for the double murder trial of 31-year-old Ivan Ramos of Amsterdam. Authorities say he killed 46-year-old Cheryl Gross and 56-year-old William McDermott in McDermott's Amsterdam apartment last March. Prosecutors say Ramos slashed McDermott to death before bursting through a chain-locked bedroom door to kill Gross as well. Authorities say drugs were found in the apartment after the slayings. Ramos was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. (Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
