UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Four people are under arrest after a nearly two-year investigation into illegal gambling in central New York.

John Swift, 42; Richard Dorsagno, Sr., 56; Richard Dorsagno, Jr., 35; and Susan Dorsagno, 56, all of Utica, are charged with varying degrees of promoting gambling. Swift faces 14 felony counts; Dorsagno, Sr., 17 felony counts.

State Police carried out search warrants on the defendants' homes and Dorsagno Sr.'s bar, Rick's Place, on Mohawk Street in Utica back in January. Investigators say they confiscated roughly $220,000 cash as well as several computers, vehicles and gambling records. They say the suspects were essentially 'bookies', utilizing online websites to receive and manage bets on college and professional sporting events.

The four are due in Oneida County Court for an arraignment, to enter an initial plea to the charges, late Wednesday morning or early Wednesday afternoon.

The investigation began in February of 2009.

More arrests are expected in the next couple of weeks.

A mugshot of Richard Dorsagno Sr, 56 was not available as of this writing.
