MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - An employee at the Midstate Correctional Facility has been charged with petit larceny and official misconduct after authorities say he stole gasoline from the facility for personal use.

According to New York State Police, Robert B. Crouse, 54, of Durhamville was working as the civilian Plant Superintendent employed by New York State and in charge of maintenance in the buildings and on the grounds of the Correctional Facility.

Authorities say that Crouse stole gas from state gas pump on the Correctional Facility grounds by placing the gasoline in three, five-gallon containers from his personal vehicle and then transported them to his residence.

According to the New York State Department of Corrections, Crouse has been employed by the Department since 1984, working at facilities in Cayuga County, Seneca County, St. Lawrence County and Oneida County since that time.

He currently remains on the payroll and is using vacation accruals at this time, according to the Department.

Crouse is scheduled to appear in Marcy Town Court on January 22, 2013.

Additional charges may be forthcoming pending further investigation.
