Man arrested in connection to MD shooting death of Ilion native
By JOLEEN FERRIS

COLUMBIA, M.D (WKTV) - A North Carolina man is under arrest for the murder last weekend in Maryland of an Ilion native.

Deborah Castellano had just left the Village of Ilion to begin a new job in Columbia, Maryland. Many people knew her locally from her former job at Turning Stone Casino.

Police say 47 year old Castellano was shot multiple times last Saturday, May 4, in the parking lot of the apartment where she was living. Authorities say a person living nearby found her body inside a vehicle.

Ryan Patrick Matthias, 43, is now under arrest and charged with first-degree and second-degree murder as well as first-degree assault. Authorities say Matthias was picked up in Charlotte, North Carolina on Friday and is currently awaiting extradition back to Howard County, Maryland.

Former co-workers of Castellano's say the two had dated.

If Mathias waives extradition, members of the Howard County Sheriff's Department can go get him immediately. If not, there will be an extradition hearing and then it could be weeks before he's back in Maryland.
