Lockdown lifted at Marcy Correctional Facility
MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - An ongoing investigation is underway following an incident at Marcy Correctional Facility on Monday afternoon. New York State Police were on the scene assisting the Department of Corrections at Marcy Correctional Facility in response to what officials originally were calling "some sort of threat." The facility had been placed on lockdown around Noon on Monday, but by 4:40 p.m., Corrections Officials said that the facility was operating normally once again. A spokesperson for the Department of Corrections said that a staff member at Marcy Correctional alerted them of a concern that an inmate, who was very angry, was possibly going to harm some people. This resulted in a search of his area where "a suspicious object" was located. Corrections Officials were unable to elaborate as to what that object was, but say that's when that portion of the facility was evacuated and locked down to allow for further investigation. State Police came in and determined that whatever was found in the cell was not going to harm anyone and that's when Corrections Officials say things returned to normal. The investigation is ongoing and it was unclear as of this writing as to whether the inmate, whose name was not released, would face internal discipline or outside prosecution.
