Police: Utica man assaulted and beat a woman in front of her child

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV)--One Utica man has been arrested after police say he beat and choked a woman, then threaten to kill her in the presence of her child on July 15.

According to the Utica Police Department Ian Noel, 21, punched his girlfriend in the face, choked her then used a belt to beat her entire body.

Noel also reportedly grabbed a knife threatening to kill the woman, while her newborn was in the room. Authorities say Noel put the knife down once police officers arrived at the home.

He is being charged with aggravated family offense, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal obstruction of breathing, menacing and resisting arrest.

Authorities say the woman was treated at a nearby hospital for her injuries.
