Police search for suspect in New Hartford bank robbery

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Bank of America branch located on Genesee Street in New Hartford was robbed Tuesday afternoon, the suspect making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police say the suspect is still on the loose.

Roughly two hours before closing time, a man walked into the bank. Police say he did not display a weapon, but handed a clerk a note demanding money. The clerk complied, as is company policy, and the suspect fled.

Now, police say they are search for a black male who was last seen heading up Genesee Street in the direction of Utica.

Police say the suspect is described as in his late 40s or early 50s, wearing a light blue stripped shirt with a hat. He also has a thin mustache.

"Inside the bank we are interviewing the employees that are working, we do have a forensic investigator on scene," said New Hartford Police Chief Michael Inserra. He'll try to look for physical evidence, DNA, and we're interviewing other businesses, we're looking for surveillance tapes, etc."

No was hurt in the course of the robbery and police released no other details at this time.
