Rome man arrested for DWI after crashing into utility poles in Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Rome man has been charged with DWI after driving into two utility poles, Friday night.
According to Utica Police, at approximately 8:23 p.m., officers responded to the area of the 1600 block of Genesee Street, after reports that a burgundy colored Lincoln Navigator drove into two utility poles.
Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle in the area of Genesee & Sherman and determined that the driver, Vito Spoon, 32, of Evans Rd. in Rome had struck the poles with his car at a high rate of speed, and left the scene of the accident.
Officers eventually found Spoon at Oneida and Hobart Streets and arrested him for Driving While Impaired. 
Following his arrest, the officers also located a hypodermic syringe inside the vehicle and two glassine envelopes of heroin that were in the pockets of Spoon's jacket.
He has been charged with DWI common law, driving while ability impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and leaving the scene of an accident.

He will answer the charges at a later date.
