Roughly 119 cartons of untaxed cigarettes seized in Ilion

ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Authorities say that roughly 119 cartons of assorted, untaxed cigarettes were seized in the Village of Ilion following a two month investigation.

According to New York State Police, on June 8, 2012, following the two-month investigation into the possession and distribution of untaxed cigarettes in the Central New York area, the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit and uniformed members of Troop D together with the Village of Ilion Police Department executed a court ordered search warrant at 42 Spring Street located in the village of Ilion.

Roughly 119 cartons of assorted brand untaxed cigarettes were seized.

Authorities said that the investigation revealed that James T. Williams, 46, of Ilion, had engaged in an ongoing enterprise to regularly purchase significant quantities of untaxed cigarettes and resell them for a profit to individuals while evading the taxes due.

Williams was arrested and charged with possession / sale of unstamped cigarettes and fifth-degree criminal tax fraud.

Williams was issued an appearance ticket returnable in the village of Ilion Court on June 19, 2012 at 5 p.m. and released.
