Sister charged in VA stabbing death of brother, duo from Utica

NEWPORT NEWS, Va (WKTV) - A woman is accused of stabbing her brother to death in Virginia, and the siblings are reportedly from the City of Utica originally.

According to authorities in Newport News, Virginia, Latoya Garnett, 29 has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of her brother, Bryan Garnett II, 25 on Sunday night.

Witnesses tell media outlets in Virginia that Bryan Garnett and his sister had been arguing and he hit her. In response, a witness said Latoya then grabbed a kitchen knife when Bryan picked up a Lysol can and attempted to hit her with it. That's when, the witness said, she stabbed him.

Garnett, who was currently living in Richmond, VA, died at the hospital.

Authorities say the stabbing happened in front of Latoya's four children, who were staying with relatives after police took their mother into custody.

Numerous viewers tells NEWSChannel 2 that the Garnett siblings grew up in the City of Utica.
