Teen admits to multiple New Hartford car break-ins

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police say a 17 year-old boy has admitted to breaking into 11 cars in the New Hartford area.

Investigators have charged John E. Brinkley, 17, of Utica with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd Degree a Felony, Petit Larceny a Misdemeanor, and Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree a Felony.

New Hartford Police say Brinkley was also the driver of a stolen car during a vehicle chase in the early morning hours of November 7th. Two 16 year-olds were arrested afterward.

During the interview Brinkley was questioned regarding a rash of car larcenies that occurred in the Town of New Hartford on November 6th. Brinkley admitted to taking part in the entering, damaging, and/or theft of property from 11 different vehicles. Out of the 11 vehicles 7 had windows smashed out and items taken consisted of GPS systems, Satellite Radios, I-Pod's, and loose change.

As a result of this investigation 17 open cases were closed out by arrest and Brinkley is scheduled to appear in court to answer these charges at a later date.
