UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former businessman and registered sex offender in Utica is now facing additional charges. Utica Police say Matthew "Matty" Cuda now faces felony elder abuse charges.

Cuda is accused of pushing his mother to the ground and repeatedly slamming her head on the floor-- causing several facial injuries.

Cuda's mother is being treated at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

Utica Police were contacted on Tuesday by the Cooperstown Police Department regarding an injured elderly female. The department received a report from Bassett where a woman suffered from several facial lacerations and they were concerned how she received them.

UPD and the Office of the Aging started an investigation. Cuda said his mother had fallen off the couch, but police say the injuries were inconsistent with the story. After interviewing the victim, investigators discovered Cuda pushed his mother to the ground and repeatedly slammed her head on the floor causing her injuries.

Cuda formerly owned Grimaldi's Restaurant and also strip clubs in the area. Cuda was convicted in 1998 on sodomy charges. The victim in that case was a 13 year old boy.
