NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A New Hartford resident got quite the surprise on Wednesday morning as he was leaving for work and found someone sitting inside one of his family cars parked in the driveway.

Around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, New Hartford Police Officers responded to Mason Road for a report of a suspicious male going through vehicles. Police say a resident of Mason Road reported that as he was leaving for work, he observed an unknown male sitting in the driver seat of one of his family cars parked in the driveway.

Police say the resident was able to distract the male by engaging him in conversation until the police arrived on scene. Once officers arrived, the resident told police that he was missing several items from the inside of his car.

David Lebron Jr., 24, of Utica was found to be in possession of the items that were stolen from the car, police said, along with property stolen from other vehicles belonging to residents on Mason Road.

Police said that among the stolen items possessed by Lebron Jr. were two credit cards which were reported stolen from a car on Holland Ave in the City of Utica a few days ago.

Lebron Jr. was taken into custody and charged with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

According to police, it was also determined that Lebron Jr. was on parole. He was arraigned on the charges in the Town of New Hartford Court and remanded to the Oneida County Jail with no bail.

He is scheduled to reappear at a later date. New York State Parole Officers were notified and will conduct an investigation into Lebron Jr's parole status.
