Vernon duo charged for Deerfield home burglary, admit to other burglaries

DEERFIELD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two men from the Town of Vernon have been charged in connection to a daytime burglary of a residence in the the Town of Deerfield.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Adam S. Trot, 24 and Matthew W. West, 26, are charged with second-degree burglary.

Authorities say a call came into the 911 center on Thursday afternoon from a concerned citizen who said they saw a suspicious Black SUV-style vehicle traveling back and forth on Walker Road in Deerfield. The 911 caller stated they then saw a white male wearing a hoodie and walking up the driveway of the neighbor's house on Walker Road. The caller said the suspicious male walked around the neighbor's house several times and appeared to be checking to see if anyone was home. While the neighbor was on the phone with 911, the neighbor reported that the male kicked opened the side door of the residence and then entered the home.

A short time later the caller stated the male exited the residence and appeared to be carrying something from the home. The suspect then was seen in the passenger seat of the Black SUV, headed north on Walker Road with someone else driving the vehicle.

Sgt. Rich Buczek of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and saw the vehicle traveling north on Walker Road a short distance from the residence that was just broken into. Authorities said the vehicle was followed until additional units arrived and the vehicle was stopped on Walker Road.

Authorities say the occupants of the vehicle were identified as Adam Trost, the male who allegedly broke into the residence, and Matthew West, the driver of the getaway vehicle.

The owner of the residence was notified and responded home and met with Sheriff's Investigators and members of the New York State Police, who also assisted with the investigation.

Trost and West were transported to the Sheriff's Office and interviewed, when investigators say the two admitted to the burglary and also several other daytime burglaries that had occurred in Oneida County.

The two were arraigned in the Village of New York Mills Court. Trost was remanded to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $30,000 cash bail and West was remanded to Oneida County Jail with no bail.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit is continuing the investigation into the burglaries.
