New Berlin man accused of shooting six horses belonging to neighbor

NEW BERLIN, N.Y. (WKTV) - A New Berlin man has been accused of shooting and killing six horses that belonged to his neighbor.

According to New York State Police, Lauren L. McMaster, 75, of New Berlin was charged with six counts of second-degree criminal mischief and six counts of cruelty to animals.

Authorities say an investigation into the death of six horses on property adjacent to Hunts Pond Road in the Town of New Berlin revealed that McMaster shot the horses, which belonged to his neighbor, with a 12 gauge shotgun.

McMaster was arraigned in the Town of Columbus Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail and $1,000 bond.

State Police said the investigation is continuing.
