Death of possible suspect in Simon murder may affect case

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - New developments have arisen in a 25-year-old local murder.

A possible suspect in the 1985 murder of Kimberly Simon has died.

Prosecutors are not naming the man - who lived out of state - but they say he died of natural causes.

Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara hopes that the death of this person of interest will prompt other witnesses in the case to come forward.

"Definitely a person of interest in the suspect mode and I believe that person's passing might have significant influence on some of our witnesses," McNamara said. "It appeared from interviewing a lot of the witnesses that he was a person a lot of people were afraid of."

The Fox television show "America's Most Wanted" will air a 25-minute segment on the Simon murder Saturday night at 9 p.m.

Local investigators will be alongside the show's telephone operators in Washington, D.C. when the show airs.
