Fugitive of the Week: Kwamae Smith turns himself in

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A man wanted in connection with a shooting on Schuyler Street in Utica last month has been apprehended.

According to U.S. Marshals, Kwamae Smith of Utica was wanted by the Utica Police Department and the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force on charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Reckless Endangerment.

Smith is accused of firing ten rounds from a 9 mm handgun into a parked vehicle on Schuyler Street in Utica at just after midnight on May 27, 2010. At the time of the shooting the vehicle was occupied by several people, including several children.

Following the incident, investigators followed numerous leads. On Wednesday June 9th, working with his attorney and family members, Smith surrendered at the Utica Police Department without incident.
