Convicted sex offender wanted in multiple states located, arrested in Utica
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A convicted sex offender who was wanted in the state of Florida and the state of Washington has been located and arrested in Utica.
According to the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, Stacey S. Snell, 39, was wanted by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in Florida for Failure to Report Vacating Permanent Residence or Update Sex Offender Registry and the Department of Corrections Adult Probation and Parole in Olympia, Washington for Escape Community Custody for Failure to Register as a Felony Sex Offender.
Authorities said Snell is required to register as a sex offender due to an October 1996 arrest and conviction for Rape in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
On Tuesday, November 29, investigators with the Regional Fugitive Task Force were actively searching for Snell when task force members spotted him walking west on Eagle Street in Utica.
Snell was approached and positively identified by investigators and arrested as a Fugitive From Justice.
Authorities said that information developed during the course of the investigation may result in additional charges being brought against Snell for violation of the federal Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
