Fugitive aggressively sought by authorities
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Alert, but not alarm, is the phrase of choice used by authorities as the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Fugitive Task Force continues to search for a registered sex offender who has disappeared from parole supervision. Robert Blainey is a serial rapist who was first imprisoned for the attempted rape of an eight-year-old girl in Madison County several years ago. Blainey was on parole for that crime when he committed two more rapes. He was currently on parole for those crimes when he stopped reporting to his parole officer and essentially disappeared. That was about three weeks ago when Blainey was living on the 900 block of Rutger Street in east Utica. Since authorities released Blainey's photo, the U.S. Marshals tip line has received numerous tip calls, but none of the sightings have delivered the fugitive. Schools are warning parents and keeping a closer eye on students. The Utica School District distributed flyers with Blainey's photo to all school principals and security. They notified parents as to the situation, as well. The New Hartford Central School District also notified parents. They also requested police presence for all schools at dismissal time and have asked coaches to keep athletes in their sight at all times; the cross country and track teams will not be running off campus today. U.S. Marshals ask anyone who thinks they might have seen Blainey to call their tip line at 315-690-1834.
