Fugitive wanted in FL arrested after Frankfort traffic stop
FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - A man wanted in the State of Florida has been arrested in the Village of Frankfort after being stopped for using his cell phone while driving.
On Saturday October 15 at 10:43 p.m., Village of Frankfort Police Officer Jonathon Reska stopped a vehicle driven by Ryan J. Hughes, 25, who currently resides in Ilion. Officer Reska said he observed Hughes using his cellular phone while driving in the village.
Following the stop, the officer learned Hughes was a wanted fugitive from the State of Florida.
He was taken into custody without incident and was arraigned on the fugitive from justice warrant and incarcerated, without bail, at the Herkimer County Correctional Facility pending extradition to Florida.
The charge listed for the warrant was a felony drug charge in the State of Florida.
Hughes was also issued traffic tickets for Prohibited Use of a Cellular Phone and Uninspected Motor Vehicle. The traffic tickets can be answered at the Village of Frankfort Court at a later date.
The Town of Frankfort Police Department assisted with the arrest.
