Authorities believe suspects in custody for Columbia County bank robbery also responsible for Herkimer credit union robbery
HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Herkimer Police say that authorities in Columbia County have two subjects in custody related to a bank robbery in their jurisdiction and say it is believed these two are the same duo responsible for the First Source Federal Credit Union robbery in Herkimer on Monday morning.
Herkimer Police are not yet releasing the names of the individuals, as Herkimer authorities are headed to Columbia County to verify identification.
At this point, police said all indications to authorities are that these two are the two responsible for the Herkimer robbery and that the two were not from the local area.
Authorities said that around 11:20 a.m. on Monday morning, two individuals went into the credit union, handed a teller a note demanding money. The suspects did not display any weapon, and no one was injured. The two suspects then fled on foot.
Investigator Crim said the bank robbery in Columbia County occurred after the Monday morning robbery in Herkimer.
Media outlets out of Columbia County report that a man wearing a similar outfit as a man in the Herkimer robbery walked into the Bank of Greene County branch in the Town of Greenport around 3:46 p.m. on Monday, and handed a teller a note demanding money.
No one was injured, and like the Herkimer robbery, the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Media outlets in Columbia County also report that a 24 year old named Jonathan Mills, of Rochester, was arrested for the Greenport robbery after he was located at a motel in Westchester County early Wednesday morning.
He was reportedly sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office tells media there that they believed the capture of Mills might help solving other bank robberies in other parts of New York State.
