Herkimer County Legislature to take up bath salt ban

By WKTV News

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Herkimer County Board of Legislators is looking to follow in the City of Rome's footsteps and pass a "bath salts resolution" of its own, on top of state laws already in place.

Chairman Vincent Bono says the Prevention Council came to lawmakers urging that a law be placed on the books that bans the sale of the drug. Currently, an attorney for Herkimer County is reviewing a possible resolution that would make it a crime to sell bath salts and synthetic marijuana.

"Nowadays, there are all kinds of chemicals people are trying to ingest and try. Where does it end? This is just another layer that we have to put on to eliminate these things."

Lawmakers hope to make a move in two or three weeks, but it is already illegal to sell bath salts in New York State after the governor signed legislation into law last summer.
