Herkimer man charged in Tuesday's robbery at Smoker Friendly

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Herkimer Police have made an arrest in the robbery at a smoke shop on North Main Street.

The robbery occurred around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 when a man wearing what was described as an Albert Einstein mask walked into Smoker Friendly on North Main Street in the Village of Herkimer and demanded cash from an employee. The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, but within 24 hours, police said they had a suspect in custody.

Shane P. Lynch, 49, of Herkimer was arrested on Wednesday and charged with third-degree burglary. He was arraigned in Herkimer Village Court and sent to the Herkimer County Jail without bail.

The Herkimer Police were assisted at the time of the incident by New York State Police, Mohawk Police, Ilion Police, Little Falls Police, Frankfort Police and the New York State Parole in securing the scene and assisting in a search for the suspect.
