Little League President accused of stealing $6,000 from organization

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The President of the Little Falls Little League has been accused of stealing from the league. According to Little Falls Police, Edward P. Popiel, 41, of Mechanicville has been charged with third-degree grand larceny, first-degree falsifying business records and second-degree falsifying business records. Authorities say Popiel's arrest stems form an investigation by the Little Falls Police Department into the theft of more than $6,000 from the Little Falls Little League during the 2012 season. The Little Falls Police were contacted by the League's Board in August and asked authorities to conduct an investigation into the missing money. Police say Popiel was the President of the Little Falls Little League during the year. Popiel was arraigned in Little Falls City Court and was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to re-appear in court at a later date. The Herkimer County District Attorney's Office assisted with the case.
