Mohawk man charged in alleged Craigslist contracting scam

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Mohawk man has been charged by New Hartford Police after a month-long investigation into a reported contracting scam.
Police say Joseph D. Holleran, 34, of Mohawk, placed a Craigslist advertisement for handyman services, which was answered by a New Hartford resident in mi-October 2012.
According to authorities, Holleran accepted more than $800 as a deposit for a roofing repair, but neither obtained any materials for the job and did not start any type of work, even after the victim contacted him several times. An arrest warrant was obtained and Holleran was taken into custody on January 30, 2013 by the Ilion Police Department subsequent to a traffic stop.
Holleran was then turned over to the New Hartford Police Department and arraigned in Village Court. He has been charged with petit larceny and remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.
