DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Dolgeville man is facing charges after authorities say he tried to strangle his girlfriend in front of their children.

According to the Dolgeville Police Department, Brian J. Cotton, 30, of Dolgeville has been charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities say that Cotton was involved in a physical domestic dispute with his girlfriend, placing his hand around her throat and obstructed her breathing, putting her in what police refer to as "fear of death." This was all done with their children present, police said.

Cotton was arraigned in the Town of Little Falls Court and sent to the Herkimer County Jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bail bond. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Manheim Court on September 19.
