Two charged in separate welfare fraud investigations

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two people are facing charges after separate investigations by the Herkimer County Sheriff's Office into welfare fraud .

According to authorities, Tekquanna K. Deane, 31, of Herkimer was charged with third-degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing.

The Herkimer County Sheriff's Office says that from 2009 to 2011, Dean fraudulently received child care services totaling more than $16,000. Dean was arraigned in the Village of Herkimer Court and was released after posting bail. She is scheduled to re-appear in village court on August 7 at 4 p.m.

In a separate incident, Christopher J. Volo, 44, of Frankfort was charged with fifth-degree welfare fraud and petit larceny. The Sheriff's Office says that during a four month period, Volo was collecting welfare benefits from the State of New York and Georgia totaling $1,000.

Volo was processed and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Village of Herkimer Court at a later date.
